Phillip David Patterson

Phillip David Patterson, born January 1, 1958, to Archie E. Patterson, Jr. and Helen Smith Patterson, graduated from Andrean High School in 1976, where he excelled in basketball, and later attended Indiana University. He served with the City of Gary Fire Department as Captain and the City of Harvey Fire Department as Assistant Chief.

In 2006, Phil suffered a massive stroke that left him incapacitated until his passing. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and watching Law & Order, the news, soap operas, and sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Helen Patterson; and his sister, Carolyn.

Phil is survived by his wife, Cathy; children, Shamario (Carlada), Phillip, Jr., Antoine, Royal, and Antoinette; brother, Archie (Renee); sisters, Cynthia, Kellee (Billy), and Kaluwa; and a host of grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and dear friends.

Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2026, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with Homegoing Services 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. from Ridgelawn Funeral Home 4201 West Ridge Road Gary, Indiana 46408. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery 1518 E. Elm Street Griffith, Indiana 46319.
